Bringing Happiness and Fulfillment to Your Work

Have you ever worked in a place that just had awesome energy? Things were happening and moving forward, and people were excited to be there. Think about what that felt like.

And have you ever worked in a place that wasn't as happy? Maybe it was just depressing, or people didn't want to be there and they were miserable.

Bringing Joy to Work...

I want you to think about, in each of those environments, what was it that really caused the happiness? Part of it might be the nature of the work. Some work can be fun or engaging, some of it maybe not so much. That's certainly part of the equation.

But another part of the equation is probably what the people themselves brought. There have been people who have worked in situations that are miserable to some people, and yet these people are happy in them, and vice versa. What I'm going to suggest to you is happiness, joy, motivation: all these things are brought in to work by the people.

Now, if you're saying, “I walked into this place and it was already happy," then who brought that in? Somebody else did.

And if you say "No, it was systems," then who put their heart and their soul into making the systems, tweaking them, fixing them if something was wrong? Who created the vision that you're so inspired by? Who created the place? Whatever it is, somewhere, somebody brought happiness, joy, inspiration, love, whatever it is that makes it a good place to work, they brought that into the workplace.

Maybe initially, you're just the beneficiary of this positivity. You just receive it, kind of like when kids grow up in a household, and they think that the house just happened, the car just happened, and the food just shows up on the table.

And yet, at some point, if you want that to be sustainable, you don't want to just be taking the energy, you want to be giving energy too. You want to be in a situation where you are contributing and bringing happiness to that workplace.

...Whether You’re Staying, Leaving, or Not Sure

I encourage you, regardless of your situation, whether you want to stay with the work you're in for the next 50 years, or you can't stand to be there another 50 days, while you're there, bring happiness and joy with you.

Because if you're staying there, it's going to help you, in the long run, to create a more joyful place to work and attract more joyful people.

If you're leaving there, it's going to create a better platform for you to leave. Maybe it'll make it easier for you to leave when you want to. Maybe it'll result in a bigger bonus.

A lot of people don't realize this. The way you leave an employer can very often impact bonuses or goodies that they might or might not have given you, and you might never have heard about them, because they just choose not to share them with you.

This is even more important if you're in an in-between place and you’re not sure if you want to stay where you are or move on. See how you can bring happiness and joy into your current work situation, and whether that helps you make up your mind.

This reminds me of something one of my uncles said to me once when I was considering whether or not to go to church on a certain day. I came in that day and I said, "You know what, Uncle Tim? I don't want to go to church today."

And he said, "Why not, Wade?"

I said, "Because I don't feel like I’m going to get anything out of it."

And he looked at me and said, "What makes you think that you're going just to get something out of it? What are you going to bring? Maybe somebody needs to see your face today. Maybe you're going to run into somebody that you're going to talk to, and they needed to hear from you. They needed your energy."

So I encourage you to consider that. In no way am I suggesting you stay in an employment situation that you don't like. I'm all about evolving and growing and making something better happen, but while you're there, wherever you happen to be, there's only now. You might as well bring happiness and joy to it, and see what comes from that.

I hope this serves you, I hope this helps you to make a greater situation for you and the people around you. If you have any questions on this, or thoughts or suggestions, feel free to email me.

As always, I look forward to helping you make more money in less time, doing what you do best, so you can create a lifestyle that's more abundant and enjoyable for you, your friends, your loved ones, and your family.
